FREE Tips for IE7, and FireFox USERS!!!

I was afraid that firefox, Maxthon and Avantbrowser would lose lots of
dedicated users (well not ff users that much because
they love it for too many reasons) with the release of IE7. But now the
incredibly low quality of IE7 is a gift to those people who were working on
those alternative browsers. It seems that THEY are the ones who will bring
browsers to another level an keep advancing the technology.

I urge you to take a look at these alternative "shells" and firefox if you
have not done it yet:

In other words, my main tip for IE7 users is to avoid using it :-) (hehe I
know.. I know but IE7s User interface is reeaaaalllllly bad)

www.avantbrowser.com >> this is the best shell (or alternative user
interface) for the IE6 or IE7 rendering engine.
If you want the extra security but hate the IE7 interface, install IE7 but
use the avantbrowser shell (interface).
www.Maxthon.com >> version 2.0 is coming very soon.. and it looks nice....

and of course Firefox www.getfirefox.com

Firefox has a simple interface when you first install it, BUT this browser
can do almost anything imaginable with add-ons,
so after installing it, go to tools> add-ons and explore the site... you
will be amazed
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/extensions/ (to install these you must
go to the site with firefox)

Tip 1: Many add-ons are not yet compatible with the fresh version 2 of
FireFox, BUT you can use this add-on to
trick them into thinking you are using the older version. I have seen 95% of
the add-ons that I have tried work great!
Get it here http://users.blueprintit.co.uk/~dave...irefox/nightly

See screenshots on how to use it:
http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/2...atible2ur7.jpg

or if you upgraded from 1.5.x and your add-ons are no longer working.. see
here: MAGIC!!!
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/5421/compatiblefz1.jpg

NOTE: Its not possible to have tested all the FF add-ons so I can be sure
that something may not go wrong, so you can try these add-ons on the
portable version of FF you will see below, if all your add ons work good,
then you can install them on the normal installed version of FF

Tip2: If you dont want to install FF but you want to try it, you can use the
PORTABLE version from here
www.portableapps.com RC3 is the SAME build (same thing) as version 2.0
Portable apps normally are used on removable drives like USB sticks, but no
one says you cant use them on your hard drive
as normal programs! Thats what I do to avoid installing too much stuff.....

I am unfortunately leaving out opera... I am doing this on purpose.. because
they insist on holding on to their "strange" interface,
that alienates new users....

Re: FREE Tips for IE7, and FireFox USERS!!!

How could I forget this???

One of the main reasons people avoid using FireFox is that it cannot render
all the sites correctly and only IE can...
well... install this Add-on and create a TAB with the IE rendering engine
within Firefox!!!
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1419/

in other words you use firefox, but the tab is actually loading the internet
explorer engine!
So everything is displayed correctly.

RE: FREE Tips for IE7, and FireFox USERS!!!

Well......progressive realization i must say i've seen u somewhere else on
this forum knocking ie7. Can't say i blame you though, i can't even install
the stupid thing....it just tells me "setup unable to initialize
msftedit.dll; check log" and that's it. And yeah i do have xp sp2, didn't
uninstall any windows components, have tried installing it in safe mode with
networking support, i'm just tired. FF on the other hand feels light and
nifty which is really good, i like it's seeming flexibility plus the fact
that it can do just about all i need it to do is really good. I didn't even
need to restart my pc, it starts with almost bare-bones and allows you to
feel it up as you like (very good engineering) with whatever tickles your
fancy. If this is how vista is going to be, i'm off to linux again.

Re: FREE Tips for IE7, and FireFox USERS!!!

Microsoft can do a far better job.... I believe that they can make a
tremedus difference for the better...

that is why I am so harsh on them.. because I expect only suburb quality and
innovation from them.

They have the time, they have the money they have the brains they have the
talent....

Its such a shame to see all those being wasted.

Re: FREE Tips for IE7, and FireFox USERS!!!

The premise of our argument is entirely FALSE. Internet Explorer 7 is an
excellent browser. The low quality in your argument is your argument.

LOL! If you can get it installed and after you configure all the work
arounds, it's a POS. It is excellent for providing repairs techs with
lots of work when IE7 is force fed through auto update.

My, first an unsubstantiated claim that IE7 is excellent and then an ad
hominem attack. You, sir, have no argument.

FireFTP is one, very good, example of a FireFox add-in.

Re: FREE Tips for IE7, and FireFox USERS!!!

Dont ask me.. read all the posts in this newsgroups and see what people are
saying.
If you have no problems then one or more or all of the following things have
happened:

1) You are extreamly lucky (it did not crash, the tabs worked, it did not
wreak other software)
2) You are not a power user. In other words you dont want or need to
customize the browser,
or you use it for simple browsing.
3) Your computer has been formated or windows installed recently and you
have a limited number of programs installed.
4) You have bad taste
5) You are not a "seasoned" computer user and the problems are invisible to
you.
6) You are Bill Gates, a MVP or you work for Microsoft.

Sorry...

I have installed it and run it without a problem on many computers. It is an
EXCELLENT browser!

Re: FREE Tips for IE7, and FireFox USERS!!!

I have had NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS installing and running Internet Explorer 7
on any computer. No crashes, no problems with the tabs, no problems with any
other application, no need to customize the browser (I like the clean simple
look much better than the junky cluttered look of Avant or Maxthon). And
computers are not new to me, I have been in the Computer industry for 25
years.
