Best edition of Vista for remote desktop? (terminal services)

Ok, to say the mass of different vista editions is confusing is an
understatement.

I'm looking for a version of Vista that has remote desktop, am I stuck with
having to buy ultimate?

I'm simply not interested in IIS (apache + php on linux vm, running under
vmware for that, although for work I would want IIS for dev purposes), "dvd
ripping" (i've got dvd decrypter, virtualdub and the divx codec for that),
winsat, media center stuff (got an xbox with XBMC on for that).

I really don't want to fork out what I consider an extortionate amount of
money (£325) for a load of stuff i'm not even going to use.

Will it be possible to buy the business edition or is that strictly limited
to business only?

I happily run XP Pro on my home machine as well as my work machine, remote
desktop is an absolute must especially when I want to connect to either
machines when i'm away from them. (and no, remote assistance isn't what I
want)

Mark

You need either Vista Business, Enterprise Edition or Ultimate.

RE: Best edition of Vista for remote desktop? (terminal services)

If you really don't want to fork out the extra coins for the Ultimate version
or the business versions, then you might want to look into a 3rd party remote
access program like UltraVNC (which is free). I used to use RealVNC and
thought it was great, but saw a post earlier that said that realVNC is no
longer free and suggested UltraVNC. http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/

I suspect a lot of people will be resorting to 3rd party software as Vista
Ultimate is not exactly going to be cheap, and a lot of people seem to be
using remote desktop now.
