| | validate, not genuine ! hello! I have vista installed on a separate pc which I unplugged a couple of weeks ago. this morning I plugged in again, and guess what: I get a message that my copy is not genuine; have to validate, get a new product key, etc. I filled in my MS-given key again, and it seemed to work OK. but every time I boot up, I get this message again, NO genuine windows copy, can't get any software updates, including windows defender, etc.! I don't know what is going on here, but perhaps someone out there can tell me? I have RC 1, build 5600, by the way, which works fine, if and when it wants to! grrrr |

| | Re: validate, not genuine ! Because you unplugged it, have you checked the date on the system? Maybe your backup battery is weak and caused something to be lost. Your posting date looks correct--just wild guessing!!
