| | Re: validate, not genuine ! I already did that today, and I got the answer: 'Validation complete. thank you for validating your copy of ms windows. you now have access...' etc. looks like the real thing, doesn't it! but no; after reboot I get the same message, and in the bottom right corner of my desktop, underneath 'windows vista TR, RC1' , it says: 'this copy of windows is not genuine'. drives me nuts! so, it doesn't work here on vista! thanks for trying, and I am waiting for another syuggestion! | | Re: validate, not genuine ! My understanding is that downloaded genuine advantage validation tools are not yet supported on Vista. If you downloaded a validation tool to get access to a free download then you have installed a tool that is only supported on XP and earlier. You can get defender updates in Vista via Windows Update. -Mike "cristoballorio" <someone@mydomain.com> wrote in message news:B0912837-CBE0-4E14-80C1-D7BDA33D56BE@microsoft.com... >I already did that today, and I got the answer: 'Validation complete. thank >you for validating your copy of ms windows. you now have access...' etc. > > looks like the real thing, doesn't it! but no; after reboot I get the > same message, and in the bottom right corner of my desktop, underneath > 'windows vista TR, RC1' , it says: 'this copy of windows is not genuine'. > > drives me nuts! so, it doesn't work here on vista! > > thanks for trying, and I am waiting for another syuggestion! > > "John Barnes" <jbarnes@email.net> wrote in message > news:u3VpqO2$GHA.3836@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... >> >> "John Barnes" <jbarnes@email.net> wrote in message news:... >>> This has happened to me several times with XP etc. All you have to do >>> is go to the Windows Genuine Advantage page and download the ActiveX or >>> verify with the one on the system. >>> http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/dow...yValidate.aspx >>> >>> See if it works here on Vista and let us know >>> >>> >>> "cristoballorio" <someone@mydomain.com> wrote in message >>> news:F0053118-3915-4B62-B4A4-30E19828C28D@microsoft.com... >>>> hello! >>>> >>>> I have vista installed on a separate pc which I unplugged a couple of >>>> weeks ago. this morning I plugged in again, and guess what: I get a >>>> message that my copy is not genuine; have to validate, get a new >>>> product key, etc. I filled in my MS-given key again, and it seemed to >>>> work OK. but every time I boot up, I get this message again, NO genuine >>>> windows copy, can't get any software updates, including windows >>>> defender, etc.! >>>> >>>> I don't know what is going on here, but perhaps someone out there can >>>> tell me?
