lost connection to internet and can't restore it

I am writing now from a different computer. My computer lost
connection to the internet. It was working yesterday. I tried to
restore to restore point but vista won't allow me. It says
"Restoration Incomplete. Your computer cannot be restored."

How do I fix this problem?

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these
Web pages.
Help with malware:
All MS-MVP Sites.
Consider this: Whenever a new error condition appears on your computer, it
is almost certain that there was some change to the computer soon before the
problem began.

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is
being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure of.

Have you tried this to fix the connection problems.

Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select
"Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset
reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset
reset.log

Reboot the machine.

--------------
You went to another machine and got to the internet from the same location?

Re: lost connection to internet and can't restore it

If the OP can't use SR his problems go beyond his inability to connect to
the net.

One cause of the restore problem is Norton Internet Security 2009. It
has a setting to protect itself from being overwritten, but it goes too
far and won't let System Restore work.

If this applies to you, open NIS, choose Computer Settings ->
Miscellaneous, and turn off Product Security Tamper Protection. Turn it
back on after a successful restore.
