game controllers and windows

Hello,

Is it possible to get Windows Vista to accept
a game controller developed for Microsoft
XBox or for the PlayStation using the USB
port to attach it.

I would like to use such a game controller
and develop a game with DirectX that can
make use of such a joystick.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

John Goche

But do they or do they not exist?

For instance they seem to supported in Linux but
I am not sure whether Windows VIsta Home Premium
supports them as well.

Thanks again,
