| | Windows Explorer Stops Responding During Boot-Up I am running Vista SP2 32-bit along with Norton Internet Security 2009 (NIS). I have NOT installed any software recently without disabling NIS. All Windows Updates available have been installed with the exception of KB963707 and Internet Explorer 8. I recently clean-installed the OS (within past two weeks). Recently (for past two days), during the boot-up process, my VAIO VGN-NR140E has begun displaying the error message "Windows Explorer has stopped responding and needs to restart" (or something similar). A dialog box appears offering to restart and check online for a solution, or simply to just restart. Clicking either option allows the computer to finish booting, and Windows Explorer seems to work just fine after that. (Note that clicking "...and check online for a solution" does NOT open any support web pages nor is any other action taken, either) Attached is the event info regarding the application error, copied from the Microsoft Management Console > Computer Management > System Tools > Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application : Faulting application Explorer.EXE, version 6.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e01da5, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e03821, exception code 0xc0000374, fault offset 0x000afaf8, process id 0xf24, application start time 0x01ca3ca7e3bf800a. - System - Provider [ Name] Application Error - EventID 1000 [ Qualifiers] 0 Level 2 Task 100 Keywords 0x80000000000000 - TimeCreated [ SystemTime] 2009-09-23T23:45:29.000Z EventRecordID 2103 Channel Application Computer Tony-PC Security - EventData Explorer.EXE 6.0.6002.18005 49e01da5 ntdll.dll 6.0.6002.18005 49e03821 c0000374 000afaf8 f24 01ca3ca7e3bf800a Any thoughts, perhaps even a fix, please advise. -Tony |

| | Re: Windows Explorer Stops Responding During Boot-Up Norton is likely causing your problem. Replace Norton with the free AVG http://free.grisoft.com/ or Avast http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html, and Windows Firewall and Windows Defender. Disabling Norton is not enough. You need to completely uninstall it. If it doesn't solve the problem, get rid of Norton anyway. Norton is known to cause many problems which don't always appear immediately. Download and run the Norton Removal Tool. http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...05033108162039 "Tony Multari" <tmultari@newsgroup> wrote in message news:3A40DF61-7151-42BF-8AC1-73B5CDE912B2@newsgroup Quote: >I am running Vista SP2 32-bit along with Norton Internet Security 2009 >(NIS).
