| | Internet Explorer disappears A friend has a new Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista. When she double clicks on the Internet Explorer icon (on the desktop), IE will open up for 2 seconds then disappear. In it's place are three small identical windows, with the message "Internet Explorer cannot display the web page", and also a small google search line. I'm not familiar with Vista or the IE that comes with it. So this may be normal behavior, but in my world (Win2000 and XP) you can always open up Internet Explorer even if it doesn't connect to the web. Can someone tell me if there is a way to open up IE so that it doesn't disappear as I described. Thanks, John |

The laptop from Toshiba should have a limited time software guarantee for all software installed including the O/S with a pre-installed of software on the computer. Also MS has a limited time free support for new Vista installations. I suggest you get on the phone and make contact with Toshiba and/or MS thec support. |

| | Re: Internet Explorer disappears Hi, Usually a plugin issue. Click start, type "Internet Explorer" and one of the menu entries will be to load it with no addons. Try this mode. If it is successful, then she needs to disable the plugins that load with IE through the Control Panel/Internet Options/Programs tab/Manage addons. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "jbclem" <jbclem1@newsgroup> wrote in message news:EgdAm.14237$QG1.4049@newsgroup Quote: >A friend has a new Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista. Might have been the web site when IE8 first came out and sites not ready yet. No longer have the problem. |
