Default action when clicking on a file?

In previous versions of Windows, under "Folder Options" there is a tab for
"File Types" where you could change the default action when you clicked on a
file. This tab is no longer there in Vista. What do I now use to change
default actions (i.e.; If I want the default action for a .reg file to be
"edit" instead of "merge")?

Has this been replaced by "change the program which opens a particular file
type"?

Its available Control Panel (set to Classic View) > Indexing Options >
Advanced > File Types.

Re: Default action when clicking on a file?

Hi,

No, unfortunately, I don't think this functionality exists in Vista. There
is no user interface to add new verbs/actions with new commands, or make a
verb the default, or rename the type, or change the icon for a type, etc.,
short of editing the registry directly. We're back to Windows 3.1, without
3.1's simple registry. Control Panel > Indexing Options > Advanced > File
Types only offers the ability to modify how different file types are
indexed.

Re: Default action when clicking on a file?

Thanks Andre, but the option to change default action is no longer there.
