Constant Black screens

Am expieriencing random and constant black screens with vista, anyone else
having this problem? It never gives error messages, etc, just the screen
goes completely black for no apparent reason, does this alot, and always
sporatically. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx

Does the screen stay black or does it come back? Does the system still
respond?

Re: Constant Black screens

Nope, it stays gone, I can still see the mouse cursor, hd lights, etc still
going, and it sporatically moves around, Im totally lost as to why, I tried
uninstalling different programs, drivers, etc. And it still does it, and
always randomly, so can't find a cause. And no errors reported in error
reporting.Thanx

Re: Constant Black screens

Just a guess but it may have something to do with uac and glass. Does it
happen when you do something that might trigger uac? Have you changed any
settings to do with uac? Are you using Aero Glass?

Re: Constant Black screens

Tried turning uac on and off, does the same thing regardless. It's not
hardware i dont think, as everything ran flawlessly on xp. I tried vista with
only its default built in drivers for everything, still the same thing, then
downloaded teh vista ati, x-fi drivers, etc..still same thing. And still
happens with no new software installed after installation. So I'm at a total
loss here. It happens both when pc is idle, and when it's busy doing
things, and I don't notice any weird cpu spikes or anything before it does the
black screen of death. Using aero glass too yes. Also, my parts are:

ATI x1800xl
Soundblaster X-Fi platinum
Asus a8ve-deluxe mobo
1gig of infinium ram
1gig of ocz ram
diamond multimedia tv-tuner

Re: Constant Black screens

Daniel:
It sounds like a driver issue but you've changed drivers. Things
that are easily overlooked are power supply voltages, CPU overheating or
ram. "http://www.memtest86.com/" works or thoroughly testing ram and it's
available as an CD image so you don't need a floppy drive. Vista as well as
Windows x64 use ram differently than XP, which means that a flaw may not
show up when using XP.

Re: Constant Black screens

It sounds like my guess is wrong then. I'd suspect a driver.

Re: Constant Black screens

Did memtest. Nope, reported no errors at all, did another fresh vista
ultimate rtm install, didn't install anything at all, no drivers, no
software, etc. And it STILL does the random black screen of deaths.
