| | Going mad, vista 32 bit resolution restart problems Hi, is there someone who can help me before I throw this thing out the window? My pc auto. restarts, every thurs. after doing downloads. The last few times when it has looked like the screen was from 1990. I have tried to go to control panel, adjust resolution, chose screen 1, and moved the resolution pixels to 1280 by 960. My screen still looks older, and it is wider but, a little sharper. I have a resolution reminder that keeps popping up that states my pc's resolution may not match this monitors optimum 1440x900 setting. See printed or online documentation. Press AUTO button on the side of this monitor after adjusting the screen resolution. I have tried that AND do not understand why in Control Panel, I CAN NOT set my resolution/pixel to 1440x900, I tried going up to 1280x1024 and the screen just gets wider! ---WHAT AM I MISSING? Does NVIDIA need to be adjusted too, if so where? THANK YOU, who ever can solve this, ugh vista problem!!! -- blugrl ------------------------------------------------------------------------ blugrl's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/152039.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/1267589.htm http://forums.techarena.in |

| | Re: Going mad, vista 32 bit resolution restart problems Explain to me the whole video card thing? I have a gateway Gt5628, I have had to download update to BIOS. I don't know anything about the video, where does it fall in at gateway.com: media reader download, network download, or video download? Can someone tell me out of these which download is the correct choice, each one has more than one. Also, my pc automatically downloads for microsoft update Thursdays. It has never caught any of these issues? I appreciate the help if someone can answer! -- blugrl ------------------------------------------------------------------------ blugrl's Profile: http://forums.techarena.in/members/152039.htm View this thread: http://forums.techarena.in/vista-help/1267589.htm http://forums.techarena.in |

| | Re: Going mad, vista 32 bit resolution restart problems Vista does not really have much to do with your video, that is largely handled by video drivers which would be written by NVidia if it's one of their cards and here's the deal. The driver sits between the hardware (The card) and the operating system (Vista) and if that driver is not perfect chaos will result. Gateway might support you with drivers, my preference would be to get them from NVidia's website or you might even see them appear in Windows update. The problem with Windows update is that it may try to install drivers while you old ones are being used, which in itself cab cause chaos. Here is a safe way to proceed. Locate you driver at NVidia website, they have an "Auto" thing that makes it easy and is usually right at picking the best driver. Download the driver to somewhere easy to find like Desktop. Click control panel on desktop, got to uninstall software and locate the old driver. Remove it, this will likely mess up your screen display. Restart the machine, do not miss this step !!! Now install the new driver from your desktop. The critical thing here seems from my experience to be the "Restart the machine" part. Briefly the drivers talk between the hardware and the operating system and are specific to the hardware, if they are wrong or somehow damaged you will get kinds of strange crap and crashes and the error reports from them don;t mean a lot because the operating system does not really know what the heck happened. It's all easy really. blugrl wrote: Quote: > Explain to me the whole video card thing? I have a gateway Gt5628, I > have had to download update to BIOS.
