Re: Vista upgrade or full version

i take it XP retail disc then?

i have XP upgrade, and can install straight from CD.
basically the only difference between upgrade and retail, is upgrade
asks you to insert a previous version of windows to verify your
applicable for 'upgrade' software. it doesnt take any files off the
previous version of windows, it just uses it to confirm you have one.
after that check, everything is taken off the cd your trying to install.

the only use for retail really is for entire new system builds, or for
the like of pre-build machines from dell etc.

that clarify?

Re: Vista upgrade or full version

As currently stated by Darrell Gorter (MSFT), you will have to have XP
installed, and will have to clean install to another partition than the
system partition.
