| Guest | RTM Vista and Nero 7 Can somebody with the RTM release (the real one, not illegal download!) check whether installing Nero 7 causes the 'rundll32' and 'COM Surrogate' errors previously mentioned on this newsgroup? (Browse to a folder containing MPEG files using Explorer, and see if the error occurs with Thumbnail views) Thanks! |

I know Nero 7.5.7.0 will install on RC2, I've used it. Can you try browsing to a folder containing MPEG1/MPEG2 files (possibly .AVI as well), and see if you get the error 'Windows Host Processes (rundll32.exe) has stopped working' ? Make sure the folder view is set to icons rather than list or details view. I still have the error as well. However, after doing a little more digging on the net and with my setup I'm not entirely sure it's all Neros fault. There is obviously an issue, but I found it happens without Nero if you have a Divx codec installed. I'm starting to believe that the codec Nero uses is flawed, so Nero will have to get an updated codec that works properly with Vista for their next release. For now, I've simply enabled the setting in Explorer to "Always show icons, never thumbnails" and I don't get the errors. This setting is in Explorer under Organize menu, Folder and search options, View tab, Advanced settings. It should be the first item in the list. All CD/DVD functions in Nero (that I've tested so far) work fine, and on the main Nero page they're boldly advertising Vista compatibility, so I expect Ahead is not in a rush and will post an updated release next month or so. |

Yes, the Nero software itself is great and works fine, they just need to sort out this little bug! > |

It's not a problem with Vista, but with the Nero MSI package. When a minimal install is done, it part installs the codecs, which causes the errors you're seeing when trying to thumbnail DivX video clips - as it didn't install the codec! Ahead need to fix the MSI. You can get DirectShow filter manager here: http://www.softella.com/dsfm/index.en.htm |
