I think they forgot about me.

I am enrolled in the customer review program, but never received a notice for
the release of RC2. Now it seems I can't get myself a copy of it anywhere. Am
I the only one? Is it possible to get a copy or am I just out of luck?

Re: I think they forgot about me.

Microsoft pretty much secrectly released RC2 over one weekend only. They
did not contact anyone. The only way you probably would have found out
about it was checking this newsgroup frequently.

Re: I think they forgot about me.

Yeah, I just found a bunch of articles about how they only released it for a
few days. That is soooo lame because when I signed up for the program it
stated we would have access to Beta, RC1 AND RC2. I'm gonna go buy a Mac and
throw out my PC now. Hah.

Re: I think they forgot about me.

MS released RC2 with a limit of about 300,000 downloads and then cut off.

Re: I think they forgot about me.

RC2 was never a part of the CPP.

Re: I think they forgot about me.

The CPP was a public download that did not include RC2. It also won't get
your RTM. If you want to get it right now you can sign up for MSDN or
Technet plus. Or wait till it is on store shelves in January.

Re: I think they forgot about me.

The webpage did not mention RC2. RC2 was not originally planned. It only
mentioned Beta 2 and RC1.

RC2 most definitely was part of the CPP.

But it was limited to a specific number of CPP members (first 200,000
downloads). It was not widely advertised, but it was available to all
CPP members who got there in time to grab it before the threshold was
hit. Of course, technical beta testers had access to it as well as
earlier and later builds.

Personally, I think RC2 should have replaced RC1 for testing since it
was such a bit improvement and really gave a good indication of RTM
performance and compatibility for those looking to code for Vista
final. I don't know why RC1 is still available[1] when it's not a good
representation of the final product. Perhaps Microsoft wants to limit
use of RC2 since it's fairly stable, but again since it's time-bombed,
I don't see why it makes any difference.

1 - available until November 30 2006.

Re: I think they forgot about me.

Not quite, The CPP consisted of Beta2 and RC1 only. Pre-RC1 and RC2 were
however made available to many on a first come basis until their (MS) set
limit was reached. There was no promise or even a mention of RC2 when I
signed up and paid my $6.00 for the DVD's, only that they would ship Beta2
and send RC1 when it was released.
