| | The video decoder has either malfunctioned or is not installed I have read all the posts here and googled everything related. Nvidia MPEG 2 Decoder installed. Yesterday when I installed Vista Ultimate RC1, The MC was working beautifully. Now I just keep on getting the same error: The video decoder has either malfunctioned or is not installed I have installed other software which WILL play DVDs, but Media Centre will NOT. I have not seen any posts here that elaborate further on this issue. I really don't want to do a complete reinstall as I have been at this for over 24 hours solid. If I have the correct codec installed, why do I keep getting this error? Thanks. |

| | Re: The video decoder has either malfunctioned or is not installed I haven't had any problems with my Nvidia decoder. I did an upgrade to an existing MCE 2005 box to ultimate just this week and eveything worked beatifully. Where did you get the decoder? have you tried MCEDiag? have you tried reinstalling the decoder? -- Josh http://windowsconnected.com Now with NNTP goodness! | | RE: The video decoder has either malfunctioned or is not installed Quoting Naveen Thumpudi [MS]: "The reason for this behavior is that the 'trial period' on MPEG-2 codecs needed for MCE/DVD playback/burn has expired around 11/15/06 in Vista RC1 (I assume you are running Vista RC1). Using Vista RC2 (or RTM if you can get a handle on it) is the right solution for now. The codecs in final Vista release do not have such an expiration." | | Re: The video decoder has either malfunctioned or is not installed I have had that problem when I was using RC1 build 5600 the decoder just stopped working there are two ways you can fix it 1. Do a reinstall 2. Or install Nvidia pure video codec there's a 30 day trial version available on the Nvidia site I installed the pure video codec and it worked fine, as long as you install the codec in Xp sp2 compatibility mode P.S. the codec keeps working after the 30 days are up.
