No VISTA For Christmas

Apparently no one will be able to buy VISTA Ultimate for christmas. I just
built a new computer, so buying another PC just to get VISTA is not an
option. Why doesn't microsoft let people download and pay for RTM right
here, right now? It seems like they would make a ton of money, and make lots
of people deleriously happy. I have $400.00 just burning a hole in my
pocket. DO NOT miss out on the holiday season! Its all about pleasing the
consumer right when possible right? Please, make our dreams come true!
VISTA ultimate for Christmas! It would save money on having to box it and
put it on DISC on so on, and so forth! My idea does have some merit!

This is one of the only things I have heard you state that has a bit of
merit. A "bit", mind you.

Unfortunately, I don't thing there is a server farm in existence that could
handle the crush. Microsoft is experiencing problems now with the relatively
few (by comparison) people who want to download from the MSDN website.

Then there is the internet backbone itself. Could the internet stand up to
the massive flow of traffic. How about the smaller ISP's whose equipment
would go into meltdown from the massive flow of bits.

Would YOU be happy when the first, second and maybe the third download is
corrupted and you have to do it over, yet again. From what I gather from
your previous rants I don't think that you are the type of person who would
accept that which is not under anyone's control.

And I know what you are going to say. Microsoft should only offer it this
way to the CPP participants, right?

You can send it to me. I can spend it without worrying about Vista.
And when you have them in your pocket again, Vista is in the stores.

Richard: My previous rants? Now that statement is unfair. As we discussed
previously, *yawn*, CPP participants contributed as much as anyone else. And
yet, those of us who faithfully submitted bugs, were not rewarded with even a
discount coupon, much less a free copy. I was invited by microsoft to
participate in the CPP. I never Just went and downloaded it because I saw
it. Here is an actual copy and paste from one of the numerous e-mails
microsoft sent to me: QUOTE: Thank you for participating in the Windows
Vista Customer Preview Program. Customer feedback is an integral part of our
development process and your continued support is very important to help us
improve the overall quality of Windows Vista. That aside, it would be great
if PC enthusiasts were able to buy a copy of VISTA ultimate for Christmas.

.......or bittorrent with an offical link from MS site.
software = free, product key = charge £xxx for.

im sure the majority of us only want vista for the OS, and not for the
pretty packaging that adds on £20-30UKP or so.

agree with the net meltdown! net would just die as we know it, although
to be fair, alot of people are in the situation where they can download
1 copy, and can then use that across 2-5 other pc's in their house (each
with their own purchased key). same goes for businesses. 1 download,
migrate that to their own personal servers and roll out locally from
their own servers, with a VLA key.

Re: No VISTA For Christmas

Supposedly there will be a trial version available for download on December
1st that will allow you to use it until you are able to purchase and
activate it with a product key. So most of us should have Vista for
Christmas.

Re: No VISTA For Christmas

I'm a CPP participant, and while I do think we deserve some kind of reward
such as a reduced price *if* you have reported several quality bug reports
(at least 10 throughout your involvement) as well as getting on the CPP very
early (I signed up in March even though I couldn't get Vista until June), I
do not feel we should get it for free although it would be nice. The reason
being is this. What did we pay to test Vista? At most, $10 for having the
DVDs of RC1 and Beta 2 both shipped. The people at MSDN that pay hundreds
if not more for a subscription should have that right, however.
Furthermore, if MS were ever that nice to give a CPP participant a free copy
of Vista, I would also take the time to send them a letter thanking them for
it. That might encourage them to do things like that more often.
