Does anyone know when Vista RC 1 stops working, and I'll either have to buy
the real OS off the shelve or reformat and go back to XP?
There has to be a time line when it will no longer work.And now that its
been sent to RTM will any update be available to the RC 1 until it
expires.Reason I am asking is maybe I should Go back to XP now if it no
longer will have anything new updates for us using Vista Rc 1.

Hi,

RC1 expires June 1 of 2007, at which point you will either need to upgrade
to the full release version or format and go back to XP. No further updates
to RC1 will occur, though you may still be able to get Windows Defender
updates for a time. Also, if you installed Ultimate, as most did, you likely
will have to use that same version for the upgrade to release. For other
versions, a format/clean install will likely be necessary.

Can you clarify what you mean by "Also, if you installed Ultimate, as most

Do you mean that because we "test drove" the top model we have to purchase
that one?

Hi,

I am surmising at this point, but in general downgrades have never been
allowed. To upgrade RC1 to the final release, you'll probably have to use
the same version. If you choose to use a different one, then you'll have to
start clean.
