| | MSDN Subscription Costs Hi, Does anyone know how much an MSDN subscription for a single user based in the UK is? Or is there a better alternative? Thanks |

There are various levels of subscription... This page http://www.microsoft.com/uk/visualst...nsubscription/ is hopelessly out of date. There are now five new subscription levels: https://buynow.one.microsoft.com/rss...localeid=en-us I used to have an MSDN Universal subcription, but changed that to Visual Studio Professional Edition with MSDN Premium, because that's all I need - all the operating systems, most of the server products, all the developer tools and Visual SourceSafe. I believe that a new subscription at that level costs around £1,800, but I was able to upgrade for c£1,300. Because I operate through a VAT-registered limited company, I was able to pay exclusive of VAT. > Or is there a better alternative? Look at all the products you need, add up their r.r.p, and then decide.. :-) |

For UK users. Depends which version of Vista - have you searched in Google, Amazon, Kelkoo etc...? |

| | Re: MSDN Subscription Costs Keeping in mind, of course, that MSDN software is (with only one single exception) allowed to be used only for development, testing and demonstration purposes. The single exception is that you may run one copy of Microsoft Office in a production environment. Purchasing an MSDN subscription so you can use the software it contains is not a legal use of MSDN. -- Richard G. Harper [MVP Shell/User] rgharper@gmail.com * NEW! Yes I know that. > Purchasing an MSDN subscription so you can use the software it contains is > not a legal use of MSDN. I never said it was... But, I'm a sofware developer, so I need a minimum of the following software: Windows XP Pro Visual Studio.NET 2005 Visual SourceSafe 2005 SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition Some of my development contracts involve integration with Exchange Server, others with SharePoint Portal Server, a couple with BizTalk etc... In addition, I use Word for documentation, Visio for designing (and documentation), Project for the obvious, PowerPoint for client presentations etc. Although I don't use Excel much, I certainly don't need it to add up the r.r.p. of the above software to see that an MSDN subscription is good value for money... :-) |

| | Re: MSDN Subscription Costs Hi Mark, I think what Mr. Harper was driving at is the number of people that mistakenly assume that the copy of Vista and other OS's that come with the MSDN subscription are for normal day to day use in a production environment. As you know, they are not. The intent for an MSDN subscription is for a development environment such as you describe, not a means of getting copies of software for home use. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "Mark Rae" <mark@markNOSPAMrae.com> wrote in message news:utvTfT9DHHA.3520@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > "Richard G. | | Re: MSDN Subscription Costs Hi, I'm a software engineer and the pc's I have are mainly used for development, so that shouldn't be a problem. "Richard G.
