| | Re: Vista - Turn off Touch Pad I don't have a button like that - It's strange - when I first started Vista, it had an icon for the touchpad - but that's disappeared. It doesn't show on the Device Manager either. Ideas? | | Re: Vista - Turn off Touch Pad My experience has been that on must have manufacturer drivers installed to disable the touchpad. I'm using a Dell D820, which uses the Alps touchpad drivers. A clean install of Vista just uses the MS mouse drivers, which allow me to use the pointing stick and the touchpad but offer no ability to disable either. I just downloaded the Alps XP drivers from Dell and installed them. got a compatibility error after reboot but told Vista to run the program and was able to disable the touchpad via the Alps utility program. If you're using a Dell, take a look for program files\apoint and run apoint.exe. Otherwise, you'll have to root around looking for your touchpad driver. | vista | Re: Vista - Turn off Touch Pad In vista there has been a huge problem with no option to disable touchpad. When typing the cursor will move everywhere and will mess up my typing. I think that part of the problem is that the driver is not installed but the touchpad is accessible through the external mouse software. After reading in forums and figuring out that no one has found a solution, I decided to simply go to control panel/mouse/touchpad and uninstall the driver for the touchpad. And then the most miraculous thing happened. After several restarting, the touchpad was still active, but a new driver was installed instead (I think the Alps XP drivers) which was for the touchpad automatically. It has a huge icon of the touchpad. If you click now on this icon, you have all of the control that you need over the touchpad. I cannot explain exactly how did it get installed, and why was it not installed before but it worked. Vista is mysterious!!! |
