Daemon Tools 4.08: do not install

Daemon Tools 4.08 caused many troubles on Vista Ultimate rtm (after trying
to load a cd iso virtually).
---Daemon tools locks up the computer.
---Reboot leads to a pbsod (Pitch Black Screen of Death) at the user log-on
prompt.
---Rebooting again and selecting "last known configuration" works but with
this twist:
Bitlocker prompts you for the USB recovery key, and gives an instruction to
press "ESC" for reboot after the key is inserted.
However, pressing esc does not work (does nothing). You have to turn the
computer off, then on with the USB recovery key inserted.

Other things the program does:
--doesn't show in add/remove programs (except for the adware, under two
different locations).
--its uninstaller leaves behind a couple of files that can't easily be
deleted (I had to use unlocker).

otoh, another program, "Virtual CloneDrive," works fine.

Re: Daemon Tools 4.08: do not install

fine here too.
both 32 and 64bit versions.

i did find awxdtools addon didnt work tho. having to use DTTools to
easily mount images.

it probably doesnt work, but u havent installed x64 version on x86 OS,
or vice versa?
go post on the DT forums - the DT dev even posts there, so chances are
high for a fix.

RE: Daemon Tools 4.08: do not install

Daemon Tools works fine for me and I have installed a fair share of software
from images.

Re: Daemon Tools 4.08: do not install

Given the replies, it seems likely to be an interaction with another piece
of software, but there were so many problems, installing, using,
uninstalling, that I believe it must have peculiar low-level interactions
with Vista--at least it is probably extremely sensitive to other software
that also accesses the cd. Since that's not true of other virtual drive
software that I've tried, I'd have to recommend caution in using daemon
tools. Certainly do a full image backup of your Vista pc before installing
it.

(I installed the proper version, x86 on x86. I'm not using vista x64.)

Re: Daemon Tools 4.08: do not install

Are you also using Vista Ultimate and Bitlocker (x86)?
