Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder for WinServer 2003

I was reading a Vista site that mentioned this LLTD service for XP machines
that allows you to see them in the Vista Network Map.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

It doesn't seem to do a hell of a lot, but this could result in a pretty
interesting map for me, as my server has dual NICs, for LAN and WAN, and my
main desktop provides an onboard WAP for wi-fi. There is also a secondary
gigabit LAN between my server and two main machines.

Well, it would be interesting if there was a LLTD service for Windows Server
2003 as well, but I can't find it anywhere. Anybody?

No LLTD responder is planned for Server 2003. It will, however, be in
integral to Longhorn Server. You will continue to see the Servers (prior to
Longhorn Server) in the lower portion of the screen. It also appears that
it will be integral to XP x86 with SP3, but I have not heard if that
decision is final. Last I heard it is not available for XP x64.

Re: Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD) Responder for WinServer 2

Have you tried just running the XP LLTD fix on the server machine?

Oh, that's a shame. How do you know this?

I don't like to install unsupported software on my super-stable server, but
as I have recently reimaged the C: drive, I just tried. No, error with the
..inf file reported.

From a chat with the team. That was two or three months ago. TechBeta had
a Feature Focus week on LLTD.
