Does Vista come with a CD and DVD burner program?

If it does, is it still limited like XP's CD burner like having no
copying CDs? Are there any free programs that will work in Vista b6000?

Thank you in advance.

Re: Does Vista come with a CD and DVD burner program?

It does come with limited capability CD/DVD burning. you can't do ISO's etc.
ISo I have been using Nero, not free...but at 70 bucks it is a steal when
you factor in all of what you get.

Re: Does Vista come with a CD and DVD burner program?

With Vista, you can burn CDs like you could in XP, Data and Music. It also
has Windows DVD Maker (Made by Roxio if I remember) which allows you to
create DVD Movies and slideshows.
It doesn't have a lot of advanced options like some other programs do, and
it doesn't write .ISO files if I remember correctly.

Hope this helps :-)

The OP does not refer to installing Windows.

Re: Does Vista come with a CD and DVD burner program?

Hello Phillip,

Yes, Windows Vista supports both CD and DVD burning out of the box. There
are multiple ways to create and copy discs, through Windows Explorer,
Windows Media Player, etc.

In Windows Explorer, you can choose between the Live File System and
Mastered formats when creating a new recordable disc. Each of these formats
is used for a different purpose. The default choice is Live File System
because it is a more convenient way to create a disc. When you use a Live
File System disc, files are copied to the disc right away. When you use the
Mastered format, files are stored in a "staging area" until you decide to
burn the disc.

When you use the Live File System format with rewriteable discs such as
CD-RW and DVD-RW, you can also erase unwanted files from a disc to recover
space, which is not possible with Mastered discs. On the other hand,
Mastered discs are more compatible with older computers, previous versions
of Windows, and other devices such as CD and DVD players.

In order to copy a disc, the cleanest method at the moment seems to be to
create an image of the disc using an ISO creation tool, such as ImgBurn or
UltraISO. Once you have created the ISO of the disc, you can burn it to
physical media. For burning ISO files, I highly recommend ImgBurn, which
works flawlessly on Windows Vista. You can download it from
http://www.filehippo.com/download_imgburn/.

For a full disc authoring suite, I'd recommend Nero -
http://ww2.nero.com/enu/Downloads.html. However, there are a few known
compatibility problems still lingering with it when run on Windows Vista, it
will allow you to copy directly disc to disc.

I hope this information is useful to you and have a great day,
