    0x7e BSOD Reboot Loop - Daemon Tools - ntkrnlpa.exe

Hey All, I'd appreciate any and all help here. I'd like to restore this
machine to working state, then rip Vista off of it as fast as possible.
The situation is Daemon tools was installed, likely the version not yet
compatible with Vista. Every time the machine boots it attempts to
install the driver for this virtual drive and throws a 0x7e blue screen.
I have less than a minute of up-time before this BSOD. Symptom occurs in
all safe modes as well, and there is no system restore point.

I have access to HawkPE which means I can make rather sophisticated
changes to the system -- I only need the right guidance. I've attached
the minidump, though I've already ran it through WhoCrashed and it
    reported:

    > On Thu 5/13/2010 6:50:52 PM your computer crashed
    > This was likely caused by the following module: ntkrnlpa.exe
    > Bugcheck code: 0x1000007E (0xC0000005, 0x82490932, 0xAFF87A68,
    > 0xAFF87764)
    > Error: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M
    > Dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini051310-03.dmp
I've deleted the Daemon Tools folder and this did not solve the problem,
I've also disabled the sptd driver and this did not solve the problem.
I'd like to believe I'm a capable troubleshooter, but every inch I move
forward, Microsoft seems to smack me with a baseball bat on this one,
leaving me right back where I started. I've found the hotfix which
should fix this problem (KB929637), but am unable to install it in Vista
recovery mode -- why the hell did Microsoft release the hotfix as an EXE
which extracts a .msu file which cannot run on it's own, when they could
have released an EXE that just installs the damn hotfix. Pardon my
frustration, I've put many hours into this machine.

I know the collective knowledge of the internet can solve this problem,
    suggestions?

    -Eric

P.S. Run your updates, I don't believe the machine would be in this
condition if all updates had been applied.

If you analyze your dump files with Blue Screen View:
    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html
you'll see that there are two non-Microsoft files listed as
    suspect in each dump:

    d347bus.sys
    GEARAspiWDM.sys

Googling them gives lots of hits.
If you want a more recent boot disk than Hawk this one is based on Win7:

Re: 0x7e BSOD Reboot Loop - Daemon Tools - ntkrnlpa.exe

Thanks much, I'll try when I get home tonight.

For GearAspiWDM.SYS, I'll attempt to remove the driver via registry by:
    http://www.gearsoftware.com/wiki/ind...2.80.93_32-bit

For d347bus.sys, I'll delete the file itself and it's brother as
    suggested by:
    http://majorgeeks.com/compatibility12371.html

I'll let you know how it goes! Thanks for the insight. Downloading the
Windows 7 rescue disk now, though I doubt it can be a full replacement
since Hawk has a plethora of tools.

    First link from previous post:
    http://www.gearsoftware.com/wiki/ind..._versions,_etc

For the second, I just deleted that file from
    C:\Windows\System32\Drivers.

    It did the trick

    Thanks much!

Thanks Kevin, I'm in the processing of installing SP1 and SP2 before I
return the computer. It was completely out of date, and I believe that
was the problem more than an old SPTD driver.
