UAC Useless

UAC in Vista does not allow Nod32 to start up until I click OK by then a
virus could slip in and do its thing. I eveb have it run as administrator
turn off DEP for Nod32 windows still blocks it. Until this is fixed I turned
off the useless UAC

You're right. It must be "UAC is useless", not "maybe I should only run
security programs on Vista that are designed to run on Vista". Also, never
mind that viruses don't "slip by and do their thing", they instead get
executed by a user that doesn't know any better, we won't let reality get in
the way of a good moan.

Well with UAC a virus which targets the system won't be able to execute
without prompting you.

But ultimately use software designed for Windows Vista, if you go into the
Security Center you'll find links to download compatible software.

What version are you running? I have NOD32 running perfect...needs to be
version 2.7 though!

I'm also running NOD32 2.7 on Vista x64 and it runs fine.

Having said that......UAC is a complete obstacle to productive
computing - and it prevents Virtual Server 2005 SP1 from running - so
I have it disabled anyway.....

Re: UAC Useless

Hello,

UAC makes these things possible:

1) Programs that don't need to use your admin powers don't have admin powers

2) You know which programs actually need and use admin power because they
prompt you for permission

3) Programs CANNOT get admin permission unless you give them permission -
you can stop them from receiving admin permission if you choose cancel

This gives you control over how much power the programs that run have over
your computer. A program can't totally mess up your computer unless you give
it permission. The usefulness of this is up to you - it puts control over
your computer in your hands. If you don't use this control, that does indeed
make it completely useless.
