| | RE: Windows Network Shares Painfully Slow I actually had to go back to XP - I imaged my vista installation so I would not have to redo everything if a fix is found... I have a funny feeling that it may have to do with specific laptop hardware as I know others running it on desktops flawlessly. I just cannot justify the time to rebuild another computer only to have the same issues... | Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: Windows Network Shares Painfully Slow I've been plagued by network issues ever since deploying Vista. Network file copies go at around 500kbytes and I have a 1Gbit network. I get around 1.6Mbytes (16Mbits) when downloading from the internet so it would be faster to upload it to the internet on one machine and then download it on the other!!! I have tried everything to fix this including buying new business Netgear networking equipment as I was using the white netgear products before and buying new cables. Even if I unplug everything and just leave the domain controller and one workstation on the network the speed will always still just start at around 4Mbits and then drop gradually to around 500kbits where it will stay for the remainder of the file transfer. With XP it was always fast (around 10MBytes per sec I think). I also get network shares randomly stop working for no aparent reason which in Vista causes all the machines to crash simultaniously if using roaming profiles. I'm fed up with this problem and none of the suggestions so far have improved things. Disabling IPv6 did help me a bit with the problem of network shares going offline though (still happens just not nearly as often). |
