    Windows Network Shares Painfully Slow

Hi I installed windows Vista Ultimate RTM on an AMD Turion64 2Ghz processor
    with 2GB of ram.

Everything is running very well except for explorer with network shares. It
takes anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes to open a network folder. The same
machine with XP is instantaneous. Other computers on the network are
instantaneous to the same shares as well.

Using a Dell P4 1.6GHz on the same connection is also instantaneous.

Exploring locally on Vista is very fast.

This is a show stopper if I can't get this fixed. The only other thing I
have installed is Etrust Antivirus. I tried disabling Etrust and the
realtime monitor and it is still dog slow!

It seems to be a 'feature', I have the same problem with a NAS, time to
make a cup of tea while it shows the details.

It is very annoying... I store everything on the network especially
    development installation files etc...

It really makes the system unusable... Hopefully these guys work on
    weekends...lol

try to use IP addresses for computers in your local area.

    Try this:

The command to disable the autotuninglevel is:

    - Click start, All Programs
    - Accessories
    - Right-click Command Prompt
    - Click Run As Administrator
    - Type the following: netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
    - Press enter
    - Restart your computer (not really necessary)

    Zakhar,

Using IP Addresses results in the same slow connection.

    YLo,

The original value for the autotuninglevel was normal.

I changed it to disabled and noted no change. I restarted and tried
    again... same slow speeds.

I then changed it back to normal.

I've had this same problem several times and ultimately the firewall was
    always at fault.

Tinkerer - I tried disabling the firewall to no avail.

I cannot believe that this issue even exists.
