SD Memory Card

What is the Deal with External SD Memory card's being used as System memory?

Did I see that correctly or was it a dream?

Are there any links as to how to use it?, what to use, Parameters?

Regards

Re: SD Memory Card

Its called ReadyBoost, and it does work. Its not quite system memory, but

Re: SD Memory Card

Plug in a USB Flash drive and it should prompt you to use it for ReadyBoost.
Or you can right-click on the drive icon in the Computer window and select
Properties, and there should be a ReadyBoost tab where you can enable it for
the drive. Apparently it doesn't work with some media readers, so using it
with, for example, an SD card may not work, and the Flash device has to pass
a speed test.

See

for an explanation of ReadyBoost.

Re: SD Memory Card

Make sure your USB 2.0 storage device is at least 250 MB (that may be down
as low as 240 MB now) and 2.5MB/sec throughput for 4K random reads and
1.75MB/sec throughput for 512K random writes.

Plug it in, select use as Readyboost device, and done.

Re: SD Memory Card

OK, I have seen most posts referring to using Jump Drives and not to use an
SD card with a card reader.

I wanted to be sure before I made any purchases.
I have many SD cards already and an SD card reader as well...but I get the
feeling this will not work.

Thanks

You get the correct feeling. The rule of thumb is if the drive can be seen
when there are no media in it (as card readers can) then it WON'T work
as extra memory. If the drive disappears when you remove the medium
(as in a USB drive) then it WILL work.

Re: SD Memory Card

Gotcha

Yeah, this card reader is visible all the time.
Only difference is that you have available space with the media installed.

OK, I will get a thumb drive totry.

Re: SD Memory Card

I am getting the same response with a Lexar Jumpdrive.
Plugged into a 2.0 USB front Port

"The device is plugged into an unsupported interface and is visible always.
