Vista - backup and restore center

hey, could someone give me a description of the 3 different backups that
the backup&restore centre now has?

it looks to me:
left-hand pane (repair windows/create restore point): what XP had in it,
where you create a restore point.

the 2 im not sure about:
backup files and
backup computer.

i'm guessing backup files = user-selected files only, which windows puts
into an archive file. is there any difference to me creating my own
..zip/.rar archive file of my files manually?
backup computer = basically an image (ISO) of an entire HDD? - similar
to a ghost backup?

have i got their uses correct, and if so what makes these 3 backups
different from each other?

iirc, the vista cd has a 'restore' option when you boot to cd, which of
the backup options above, allow a restoration of a system from the boot cd?

Looks like it, system restore, file backup (for which I use SmartSync as
it's more flexible) and an image. The latter is brilliant, run from Vista,
restore from the boot DVD. I tried it and it is quick and works like it
says on the tin :-)

The third option, it's a complete image of the OS partition - plus any
others you choose to add.

One thing to be aware regarding backup and restore in Vista, is that if you
are dual booting with both Vista and XP, booting into XP will cause you to
lose your shadow copies and your restore points. This will also effect any
kind of incremental backup. The only current known workaround for this is to
use a third party partition manager to hide your Vista partition before
booting into XP

Bitlocker will also prevent it (for Ultimate edition users only,
unfortunatly)

BitLocker is available in Enterprise too. Are you saying it affects Ultimate
only or were you not aware that it is available in Enterprise?

Enterprise is not available except through SA, so for most here it is not an
option.
