Vista - No Vista for Christmas-except on Ebay

No Vista for Christmas-except on Ebay

I am confounded by all the illegal copies of Vista being sold on EBay as I
write this. People are hawking copies of RC1, RC2 for ridiculous sums of
money. I probably report about 100 auctions a week to EBay, but even I can't
keep up with it. I really do not like to see people getting ripped off,
buying beta, and prerelease software. There are also OEM copies being sold
with upgrade coupons. This too is illegal. It seems quite silly to me that
Microsoft has released Vista to manufacturing, yet has missed the opportunity
to promote the new OS for this holiday season. If Vista is not ready for
release to the general public, the fact that it went RTM seems a farce. The
people at the top of the food chain at Microsoft Prematurely released it to
be able to say, “Hey, we did it! We finished it.” This was what? 2 months
ago I think? And yet, no one can buy a copy, except on EBay for Christmas.
This tells me there are serious internal problems at Microsoft. Vista should
have shipped, and been under my Christmas tree wrapped with a red ribbon.
Now, yet another delay, this makes what? 5 delays? How many more broken
promises Microsoft? I’ll have to see January 30th to believe it. Thank you
Microsoft for the Bah! Humbug! This season.

Re: No Vista for Christmas-except on Ebay

If I had to take a guess, the reason vista wasn't shipped before christmas
is probbly the OEM computer vendors fault... Not necessarily microsofts. It
takes quite some time for people like Dell and HP to integrate an operating
system top to bottom, throughout their computer lines... It also, is quite
poor for sales to be selling XP computers, with copies of vista sitting on
the shelves. Granted, it's not like Dell can complain too much, what other
option do they have when microsoft lays down the law... With mac expecting a
big year though, microsoft was probably being somewhat sensitive to the
vendors wishes.

If anyone is to blame, I'd say blame HP,DELL,Gateway,Bestbuy,Walmart... Not
microsoft

While Windows Vista is RTM, time must be given to hardware
manufacturers to develope and test Vista compatible drivers
for their third-party hardware devices. Most folks who purchase
software on auction sites often end up with bogus software.

Re: No Vista for Christmas-except on Ebay

I can aution my ol' RC! and RC2 DVDs for ridiculous sums ? Wow! 'Bet RC2
can fetch a better price than RC1.

Anyway. Vista was not ready in time for Christmas and Microsoft made a smart
move delaying the retail release to 2007. Why? While a new OS's bits might
be ready to take on the world, 3rd party manufacturers need time to ready
*their* products. Putting Vista under the Christmas tree might have meant
too many driver problems and issues as people hooked up their peripherals
only to find no drivers for them.

Merry Christmas.

Re: No Vista for Christmas-except on Ebay

RTM means Released To Manufacturing. This means that the manufacturers
now have the final built to check and modify their drivers, applications
and hardware ready for the full launch of Vista. There's been a small
launch to Volume License users, as usually these have long lead times to
get machines updates due to the number of machines they have.

By definition, RTM version tends to be before public release.

What is your hurry? I don't plan to buy Vista until it at least has an
SP2. The above sounds like it comes from a spoiled brat who wants what
he wants when he wants it. Give your loved ones something else.

Other than the egos of wannabe power users (got to be one of the first
to have the newest toys) - what's the hurry? Your present computer(s),
with whatever OS(s) you use, will work just fine for years to come.
