| | Remote Desktop doesnt work from outside network I have upgraded from WinXP, where I have been using a non standard port for RDP for years. I have a D-Link router, where I have opened up that port. To verify, I can telnet to my external IP on that port and it comes through. Anyways, I now have Vista, and I can RDP from my computer, to my computer using the LAN IP address and custom port. It tells me, as expected, that I am already logged into the console - so it appears to connect just fine. However, when I try connecting from my computer to the external address, it tells me my credentials dont work. Whats funny, is it will show the appropriate logon graphic for my user account. If I try another account, it will change to the appropriate logon graphic for that account. So it seems to be connecting to my computer and getting so far.... In both instances I use my custom port for connection, and I use the format computername\username to login. I have created a custom firewall rule for all networks, to allow my custom port in for ANY. The windows firewall doesnt show much, but logging successful and dropped, I only see allowed connections on my custom port, as expected. If I were to guess, I would think its some sort of authentication issue, like it wont allow authentication outside my LAN? Does anybody have any tips? |

| | RE: Remote Desktop doesnt work from outside network Paul, have you tried editing the RDP and under "Advanced" selecting "Always connect, even if authentication fails"? Give it a go!
