Vista x64 Enterprise RTM

I installed Vista x64 Enterprise RTM on my back-up computer first before
updating my main computer to find any incompatibilities. Since this computer
has multiple operating systems, I installed BitLocker following the
installation guide at
http://technet2.microsoft.com/Window....mspx?mfr=true.
Formatting the hard drive, installing the operating system and BitLocker
took about 30 minutes without any problems. The only drivers that didn't
install were the Audigy 2zs and Leadtek WinFast TV2000XP Expert, which
aren't available yet. The USR5610b modem drivers installed with the
operating system and the Vista fax program works the same as XP. The Epson
Stylus CX4800 printer/scanner installed using x64 drivers and functions
fully. Nod32 (AV) installs and functions fully. Office 2007, Works 8 and the
Works 8 update install without any of the conflicts that were present with
the Office 2007 beta. Quicken 2006 installs properly but crashes when
searching for the requested data file after installation. The cure for the
crash is to install Quicken 2006 then close the program, use windows
explorer to locate the requested file then double click it, Quicken 2006
will open with the requested file and no other problems occur. The driver
issue is an obstacle but the official release date for the operating system
is still over 30 days away, The Leadtek x64 drivers were supposed to be
released in June, 2005 and I'm still using unofficial beta drivers with x64.
I must have done something wrong with my installation because I haven't had
any of the problems that the trolls were forecasting. May everybody in this
newsgroup have a happy holiday season, this is a great holiday season for me
health wise.

Re: Vista x64 Enterprise RTM

I'm in the same boat.

I've been running Vista x64 RTM since 17th November - it appeared on
MSDn the evening of 16th (UK time) and I had it downloading at
500KB/s before the servers got swamped (when the download finished it
was arriving at about 20KB/s!).

Anyway, I installed it as soon as I could. Here's my software stack:

Vista Ultimate x64 RTM
NOD32 2.7
Office 2007 Professional RTM (MSDN also)
Nero 7.5.9.0
UltraEdit 32
WinZip 11
Forte Agent 4.something
Photoshop CS2 (CS3, due next spring, should be even better w/ Vista)
Memory-Map
Virtual Server 2005 SP1 Beta 2

The only software from my "Normal build" which had issues was:

PowerDVD 7 - it runs, but disables Aero.
Nebula DigiTv (no 64-bit drivers yet)
My Canon Lide50 scanner has no 64-drivers

So all in all, 90% of my normal build runs on Vista x64.

I had to install Virtual Server 2005 to have an XP machine, as I still
use Visual Studio 6 and that doesn't run well on Vista.
Unsurprisingly, it's device drivers which are the biggest issue.

So, the trolls and doom-bringers can say what they like; but for me
(and you) things work well!

Re: Vista x64 Enterprise RTM

It is. I'm evaluating Vista to test for compatibility with ahrdware
and software, and this si the standard stack that we use internally
(except for DigiTv of course).

So what's it to you?

Thank you for the compliment and concern. I'm not back to work yet,
but I wish that I was. The doctor indicates February, 2007 tentatively. My
last chemotherapy session was a week ago and it will take about 2 more weeks
until my system stabilizes, then my immune system will start to rebuild
normally. The vocal cord surgery was successful, now I can talk with enough
volume to be understood, which is a necessity because I work as a technical
consultant on the telephone all day. Have a great holiday season.
