| | Re: My RTM top 10 If that's the worst of Vista, then it must not be too bad. I can't fix most of those for you but I do have a fix for #3. In Windows Explorer, go to C:\Users\YourUserName\. Paste a copy of a shortcut to Notepad.exe in the Send To folder you find there. You can't, by default, open the Send To folder but you can right click it and paste the shortcut. Now, to open anything in Notepad, just right-click and select Send To and then Notepad. Dale "Jared (Home)" <jared@last.com> wrote in message news:O2a57oiIHHA.1276@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > Hi. | | Re: My RTM top 10 Well, you could always remove the "UAC is off" warning by going into the Security Center, on ther left selecting "Change how windows informs me" or the like. #8, by welcome screen, do you mean the welcome center? There is a check box in the bottom left that says "don't load Welcome Center on startup". Can we argue putting task scheduler in both admin tools and system tools makes it easier to find? I suppose it belongs in both lists. Windows Mail does take far too long to load. In fact, after downloading about 100,000+ ng messages, it began to "stop responding" on every startup. Odd, I had to delete all those messages. -- /* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Robert Firth * * Windows Vista x86 RTM * * http://www.WinVistaInfo.org * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * */ "Jared (Home)" <jared@last.com> wrote in message news:O2a57oiIHHA.1276@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > Hi. | | Re: My RTM top 10 Q1 The shortcut arrows are simple enough to remove with a freeware third party application. Visit my website http://vistasupport.mvps.org Click the Vista Faq button and take a look at question 42 Q2 Another simple solution. | | Re: My RTM top 10 Your FAQ 42 ends up linking to Vista Shortcut Overlay Remover - FxVisor 1.2. The Frameworks utility to remove shortcuts from desktop icons ends up producing back holes in the icons for lots of folks. See the comments posted on his download page and I can confirm it happened to me to (Vista RTM x64, Nvidia GE Force 7300). It obviously doesn't cause that problem for everyone, but ... Using the program itself to put the arrows back and then, why not, removing the program and rebooting gets rid of the black holes. The author seems like a nice guy -- hey, it's free! -- and I'm sure he'll figure out the problem eventually. But, for now, handle with care.
