Updating Media Center to Vista

OK, I have a system running MCE2005 that I want to test with Vista. The thing
is, I have probably 25 shows set to record on a regular basis that I'd hate
to have to go through and re-enter into Media Center once I upgrade to Vista.

Anyone who has done such an upgrade know if I will lose all my scheduled
recordings?

Re: Updating Media Center to Vista

Upgrading to Vista BETA 2 is not guaranteed to work, there have been reports
of system failure.
Who is the Windows Vista BETA 2 for?

IT Professionals, Developers, Enthusiast, people who like to back up their
data and try out new things and don't have issues just in case something
goes wrong installing the software.

It's strongly recommended not to attempt any sort of upgrade using a
beta-level operating system. Also, one certainly doesn't perform beta
testing a a machine that has other, critical uses.

Re: Updating Media Center to Vista

Well, this MCE system isn't really critical or something that I use every
day. Most of the time, I record the shows, convert them and watch them on my
PDA when I'm on the road. So if I did lose it all, and if it crashes and
doesn't record something, I really would care less.

I guess I'll just take the plunge over the weekend and hope for the best. I
want to upgrade it regardless of it's beta status or not since I don't see
the point of the Upgrade feature having been activated if it isn't supposed
to be tested. Thats why it wasn't active in older CTPs, but now? It is there
to be tested. But I digress...

Re: Updating Media Center to Vista

Dear All

Of those of you who have installed or upgraded MCE 2005 to Vista Beta 2, did
the Microsoft Ehome Infrared Remote control still work after installation
with Vista's mdeia center??

Sony

Re: Updating Media Center to Vista

I did a clean install from DVD to a partition on my MCE 2005 system. I then
tried the settings transfer wizard thing. When I started up MC on Vista, it
had no shows set to record!

I decided to take a leap and try something out. I grabbed the file
"recordings.xml" from my old machine (C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Application Data\Microsoft\eHome\Recording\) and copied it to my Vista
install's MC recordings.xml location
(H:\ProgramData\Microsoft\eHome\Recording). It seemed to work!

Now, if I could just get my recording history to transfer... it's stored in
my MCE 2005 machine's event log.

Re: Updating Media Center to Vista

My remote no longer works. Infrared keyboard with joystick mouse works fine
but the remote does nothing.
