Vista - IE7 media links & Media Player problem

I'm having a problem when I click on a video links (.wmv, .avi, .mpg, etc...)
in IE7. The media doesn't stream, the whole file downloads first then starts
to play in MP11. I have checked file associations and even changed them and
changed them back to MP11 and still no good. I've checked buffering settings
and changed from default and back to no avail. The only media links that work
are Real media and QuickTime.
I have tried associating files to another player but the file still
downloads first then plays. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I’m running vista 5744. I have recently uninstalled Nero and Divx .

Ok, I think I got it. I installed winamp then set it as default media player
under "Set Program Access and Computer Defaults". I still had the problem so
I uninstalled winamp but file associations stayed with winamp. I then set
MP11 as default player under "Set Program Access and Computer Defaults" and
finally the video streams work.
