| | DVD-RW not showing up Well here is a good one. I just installed Vista Business on my Gateway M520X+ laptop. Used the DVD drive on the laptop to install Vista. After installation, I have no DVD drive. I have checked My Computer and it does not show. It also does not show up in Device Manager at all and it does not show up in Computer Management under Disk Management. Anyone know how I can get my DVD drive back? |

Device manager and scan for hardware changes. Right click on devices in XP I forget if the key combination is the same in Vista. Rich |

| | Re: DVD-RW not showing up/Try Michael-- Make sure to search for these values, and delete them if you find any: CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive appears to be missing after you install Windows XP or Windows Vista http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320553/en-us There are many other rarer and possible solutions as to the DVD writer not showing, but the 2nd most common is this: CD-R drive or CD-RW drive is not recognized as a recordable device http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316529/en-us Since the device isn't showing in Device Manager, I assume Rich means to right click on either of the top two entries in devmgmt.msc in run box>enter (in device manager>scan for hardware changes. Could also help. Good luck, CH "Michael R. | | Re: DVD-RW not showing up/Try Thank you. Well I did not have to go in and do a scan for hardware or mess with the registry. I powered down the laptop, let it sit for about 6 hours. Then powered it back up, and the drive was miraculously there. Go figure, one of those Windows quirks.
