Vista - A suggestion to dual boot people(Vista Ultimate)

Hi,

If you have all that space to do a dual boot,
why not try a VM solution?
I found that VPC 2007 is an easy solution to the dualboot issues;
plus, you can run both o.s.'s at once
(Vista Ultimate host) (most o.s's as a guest)

I've got Server 2003 running in VPC 2007 with Vista Ultimate as host. I
need an occasional SQL Server 2005 for development here, and this is the
easiest solution for me.

I also have BeOS, OS/2 and Windows 2000, just for the hell of it.

Ubuntu Linux 6.10 wouldn't install - had bizarre display problems. I'll
give OS X a try next, although it's already running native on this machine.

Also, I wanted to install Home Basic and/or Home premium in VPC, but it's a
no go from the start. It's not a VPC issue though. It's the weirdest
thing I've ever seen: as soon as I insert my Vista DVD into the drive, Vista
locks up solid. Other CDs/DVDs work fine, and this is the DVD that I used
to install my running copy of Ultimate! It's 100% repeatable. Insert
Vista DVD, Vista locks up. No mouse, task manager frozen, no
CTR-ALT-DELETE. Nothing. Hard reset time.

It also avoids the problem of XP's volsnap.sys messing up Vista VSS files.
The only folks that can't go that route are those who need XP to support a
card or run a 3D game not supported in Vista. All in all it is an excellent
solution.

Do you have OS X running on an Apple computer? If not, then how did you
do it?

Haha, I can't get VPC 2007 to work. I tried to set the memory available to
the guest, and it won't go over 0mb. After it is setup, I tried to change
the memory, and it stops responding and crashes. If I don't give the vm more
memory, the os setup complains about insufficient memory.

It's just not happy.

I have OS X running on a non-Apple computer. There are versions floating
around that work. Mine is 10.4.6, but 10.4.8 is also available. It's
easy to install. I even have it on an IBM Thinkpad laptop. Everything
works fine, including the wireless NIC.

I could never get it to work on VPC 2004. It works in VMWare, however.
Also, I have it installed natively on this machine. Works fine, but I must
admit I don't use it much these days, now that Vista is done!

Ubuntu detects the S3Trio card and optimizes graphics to 24bit color depth.
Unfortunately, while the real S3 card supports 24bits, the emulated card in
VPC does not.
