| | Mapped Drives Is anyone having issues with mapped network drives? I have a Windows 2003 domain, that maps user's drives via a logon script. Had issues with beta, RC1 and RC2 where I would be notified the drives could not be connected at logon, now I get it with RTM. I map a drive that "Documents" is redirected to, along with "Pictures' and "Music". I also map a drive to a specific media share. The drive letters show up, and can be accessed. A couple of times, the drive letters did not show up, but I could still launch Outlook (my PST is on the "Documents" mapped drive), but I could not do anything with "Documents" from the start menu. Also, even thought I can access the media share (mp3, mpg, avi) WMP will not play or catalog any new files, though it will play the old one's just fine. Also, I can not disconnect any of the drives using the GUI or NET USE. If I map a new drive using the GUI, it works quite well. |

| | Re: Mapped Drives I am not having the same problem with mapped drives but I am having problems with mapped drives. I map drives to my server, telling Vista to not remember the password. The next time I boot and then open Windows Explorer, Vista tries to connect to those mapped drives with no password and does so over and over again until, in just a split second, my admin account on the server is locked out. | | Re: Mapped Drives You would think it would prompt you for your password, obviously since it doesn't you get locked out. Seems like Vista still has a few annoying bugs. Hope they fix this stuff soon. | | Re: Mapped Drives The Vista product team responded to my 2nd or 3rd post about this by asking about the steps to reproduce it. I have no clue if they were able to reproduce it or if they're working on it or not. I suppose they probably are, or at least I hope they are. At least I know they read the post and took action on the issue; that says a lot for the Windows Vista team. You sure won't get that kind of response from the Windows Media Player team. | | Re: Mapped Drives It's just a simple batch file net use l: "\\servername\My Documents" net use m: \\servername\music net use N: \\servername\Tools net use o: \\servername\wallpaper I just setup my laptop (a second machine) with the same edition of Vista, fresh, and it maps just fine. | | Re: Mapped Drives I suspect it's something with that particular install or user profile. The only time I ever had a problem with logon scripts is if the script runs a file that causes a uac prompt. If you don't respond to the prompt in time the script fails and the rest of the commands after that don't get executed. Sometimes it's hard to notice the uac prompt as it's just a flashing box on the task bar. -- Kerry Brown Microsoft MVP - Shell/User www.vistahelp.ca/phpBB2 "Michael O" <momalle1@hotmail.com> wrote in message news:Oz4JkarJHHA.1064@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > It's just a simple batch file > > net use l: "\\servername\My Documents" > net use m: \\servername\music > net use N: \\servername\Tools > net use o: \\servername\wallpaper > > I just setup my laptop (a second machine) with the same edition of Vista, > fresh, and it maps just fine. | | Re: Mapped Drives I've disabled UAC, and I use the same account on both machines. I have had issues with user profiles in the betas, and tried that with no change (I logged on with my domain admin account and another user account). I did do one thing in the past, I had turned on viewing all files, including system and protected files, then deleted the two desktop.ini files from my desktop. I copied these from my laptop and so far, I get mapped drives every time I restart. Doesn't make any sense to me, but so far, so good. Thank you for your time.
