Media PLayer 11 reporting low memory when attemting to play a DVD

Hi,

On Vista RC1 5600, when I attempt to play a DVD it is reporting that my
computer is running low on memory while there is only 30% used out of 2Gb.
When I try Media Center it says that Video Decoder either malfunctioned or
is not installed. Strange. Unfortunately I don't recall playing any DVD on
the computer since I installed Vista. I had some troubles though after
replacing processor (Athlon to OpteronX2). Had to reinstall SQL2005 and
iTunes.

I have the memory problem with over the air broadcasts. Media Center has
never been able to do anything. Also 2gig and nothing else running. Nothing
resolved the last time this problem was reported.

RE: Media PLayer 11 reporting low memory when attemting to play a DVD

I got exactly the same issues. Media Player 11 reports "Low Memory" when
attempting to play a DVD, and Media Center just bombs after a few seconds :-(

Probably the codecs.

if you are running the beta, that is.

In the betas, there are "time sensitive" codecs- they expire

Some just expired on 12/31/06, just as a note.

RE: Media PLayer 11 reporting low memory when attemting to play a DVD

I am now having the same issue. The Media Center DVD player was working just
fine until Jan. 4th, but now it keeps saying either "Low Memory" and/or
"missing or corupted video decoder" and then asks me to reboot. This doesn't
help. Has anyone come up with an answer and will this be corrected in the
final Vista product?

I, too, just recently experienced this same phemonenon...

Not too happy about it, either.

Ah, part of the life of being a beta tester.

I don't play DVDs often, but recall that they did once display in Vista
- either RC1 or RC2, which I am running now. But a test yesterday
echoes your results.

The suggestion that the codecs are time sensitive sounds plausible. No
doubt the fault will be remedied when the final version is installed.

In the interim, install another DVD player, such as Media Player
Classic. It works fine in Vista.

Hi,

All beta codecs for vid were "time sensitive"-lol
in other words-they've expired-
that may be why.

I doubt it. Windows has never come with the MPEG-2 codecs before. You
always had to get them on your own or they were provided by your OEM Or
you could purchase them from someone like InterVideo or Cyberlink or
just buy full-blown DVD software such as WinDVD or PowerDVD and that
will include the decoder needed to play in Media Center or WMP as well.

I've got Nero 7 which includes a DVD player. The player works fine but
it doesn't provide the codec needed for WMP or Media Center. And on a
related note, I can't get autoplay to work with it either.
