Source files?

In previous versions it was considered best practise to copy the source
files (win95/win98/i386) to the harddrive because sometimes these files are
needed. But how does this work in Vista?

In article <FA7200C8-D860-4623-B9DC-1EDB2DD2EA02@microsoft.com>,
in the microsoft.public.windows.vista.general news group, Jetze

This hasn't been required since Windows 2000 was released. The
drivers (which was why you'd want to copy the source files in
the first place) are now all cached on your system.

But it's still requiered for adding Windows components.

Re: Source files?

Yes, and those files are already cached on your hard drive with Vista. No
need for the DVD to be provided when adding Windows Features/components.

Re: Source files?

I asked recently if it was possible to copy the DVD files to the HDD and run
Setup from there, I was told it wouldn't work! I guess whoever said that was
wrong.

Re: Source files?

No way! Someone posted an incorrect answer on a newsgroup? So much for "I
saw it in the Internet."

Well, I am glad I have never posted an incorrect answer. *snicker*

Thanks Colin. But I can't figure out if there's any need to do that, apart
from the two benefits mentioned in the article.
