| | Re: restore points and previous versions (vss) I'm asking about this now. It looks like the page isn't rendering correctly. If there were no previous versions, you'd still see the box iwth the Name, Date modified, and Location columns, along with the text "There are no previous versions available." -- This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. | | Re: restore points and previous versions (vss) Unfortunately, as others have told you, I see no way around this other than using a 3rd party boot loader. If you don't want to pay for a boot manager, there are free ones available. I can't personally recommend a free one as I haven't used one of them. But the problem is if XP sees or enumerates the partition it's going to stomp on the volume snapshots created by Vista because it doesn't understand them. So your only option is to make the Vista partition completely invisible to XP. Doing this before the boot process is even turned over to XP is the safest way as that guarantees XP won't see the partition. You also need a solution that allows you to unhide the Vista partition when you want to boot into Vista. So a boot manager that supports hiding other partitions that contain the Vista installation when booting into XP and then unhides it when you choose to boot into Vista is an effective way to get around the problem. The other solution would be for MS to supply an update to XP that fixes the problem. For that you'll have to wait, with no commitment from MS that they are ever going to provide such an update for XP. -- Tom Porterfield |
