IE7 Crashes when loading home page-any home page

I have Vista Ultimate released version installed and all works flawlessly,
except for IE7. Every time I open it, it crashes and opens a dialog box
which contains the following: :"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime
Error! Program: D:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe abnormal
program termination." I found that if I right-click on the IE icon and
select, "Run as administrator, it works fine. If not, it crashes 100 % of
the time. I perforned two different installs of Vista, one an upgrade over
XP and this problem was present. Subsequently I wiped the drive, put my old
XP Pro back on and performed a clean install to a different partition.
Everything works well, except for IE7 which crashes. However, it did not
crash for the first day. From day two on, it crashes. I tried unloading
startup items to see whether there was a conflict, but to no avail.

Does anyone have any ideas of what might cause this problem and
specifically, why does it work if I select "Run as administrator? I am set
up as an administrative user, which makes me question why running it as
administrator works when I am already an administrator. Thanks for any help
that any of you might be able to offer. I didn't run into this in any of my
beta testing.

Re: IE7 Crashes when loading home page-any home page

Its possible that an installed add on is causing this. Click Start > type
"Internet Options" enter > Programs tab > click "Manage Add ons", disable
any recently install add-ons that might be causing this. Also, Click Start >
All Programs > Maintenance > Problem Reports & Solutions > under Task >
click :"View problem history" > select any errors associated with Internet
Explorer > right click it > View Details > copy the contents reply back to
this thread with it. Maybe someone can better diagnose it.

I disabled all add-ons and the problem persisted. Then I went to
"Maintenance" and looked at the problem history. Only three items were
present (none shown as specifically IE7) and the details are as follows:
Description

the driver software it needs to make the device usable. Each device
manufacturer typically includes driver software of a CD that comes with the
device, or as a download from its website. The hardware ID of your device is

Same Exact Problem here

Didn't know the problem could be solved if ran as administrator.

Still it really sucks that Vista can get its own browser to work. Have the Ultimate version as well.

Not that I care I use Firefox.

Hi Jim, I sure hope you get an answer because I am having the exact same
problem with Vista. I have home premium and upgraded from Windows XP.

Re: IE7 Crashes when loading home page-any home page

Try running IE7 without any add-ons. To do that hit the start button, type
Internet Explorer. Select "Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)". If that
resolves your issue, run internet explorer normally and use Tools/Manage
Add-Ons to disable add-ons until you find the one causing the problem. You
can then re-enable the other add-ons.
