PC Order Dates for Vista Loaded Computer

I called Lenovo today to ask when it would be possible to order a Thinkpad
with Vista pre-loaded. The sales person said that would still be a couple of
month out. It this accurate for the big dog companies? I was thinking that
I would probably be able to place my order about a week before launch date
and have my purchase arrive on 1/30 or after with the new OS. Does anyone
know what Dell or the other big guns have for launch plans and order dates?

Contact the PC manufacturer of your choice and ask them.

Re: PC Order Dates for Vista Loaded Computer

I don't have a great overview--but I think you can get accurate Dell info
here and a lot more. If that is the scenario, then I think Jim Allchin and
his homies owe the world a real cogent explanation of why the hell they
didn't spend the 6 months they needed to make Vista a quantum leap better as
to bugs left unfixed and features left on the cutting room floor. What the
hell would be the point of having this big countdown clock that I see saying
21: 34 22?

I have one word of advice. Don't buy that bad boy from Lenovo without
insisting on getting an OS DVD along with it. Colin Barnhorst has said that
the 300 OEM named partners are now shipping DVDs at MSFT's behest and if so
great, but it sure represents a turnarorund for the greed that has
prolifierated at Redmond in this respect.

I know Dell is shipping a Vista DVD now.

This is a good source for Dell info.

Good luck and enjoy your Thinkpad.

The Lenovo salesperson's response sounds fishey. I think your calendar
sounds about right.

Re: PC Order Dates for Vista Loaded Computer

I should have added that this sounds like either a disgruntled Lenovo
employee or contractor who a) could care less what they say b) is candidate
for airhead of the year with an awful lot of close competition.

They don't want to lose sales in a "like I want it now" world. I suspect
that anyone who has heard that much of the cycle is MSFT software sells
hardware sells software and on and on will have their pcs preloaded and
ready to roll before January 30 and start shipping them close to Jan. 30.
