Power Plan??

Do Power Plans get overriden when plugged in? That is, if I run on the Power
Saver mode, do I have to switch to High Performance everytime I'm running on
AC or does the plans only apply when running on battery.

Re: Power Plan??

Juan,

It SHOULD do it automatically. Windows is intelligent enough to know when it
is on wall current or on battery.

Re: Power Plan??

Hello,
Bill is correct.
To check the settings for the power scheme you can open an elevated CMD
prompt
Then run powercfg -query
for the target device look at the settings for AC and DC:
Note an example for display

Subgroup GUID: 7516b95f-f776-4464-8c53-06167f40cc99 (Display)
Power Setting GUID: 3c0bc021-c8a8-4e07-a973-6b14cbcb2b7e (Turn off
display
fter)
Minimum Possible Setting: 0x00000000
Maximum Possible Setting: 0xffffffff
Possible Settings increment: 0x00000001
Possible Settings units: Seconds
Current AC Power Setting Index: 0x00000384
Current DC Power Setting Index: 0x0000012c

Use powercfg /? to see all the syntax and values
Thanks,

Re: Power Plan??

you can check to see what it does and maybe even change it to perform to your desires.
Open Power Settings, select the one you want to look at and click on
CHANGE PLAN SETTINGS
scroll down the list and look at the items that you are concerned about.
its fairly plain

Re: Power Plan??

Hello Thomas,
What power scheme are you using?
The switching is dependant on the power scheme being used.
Thanks,

Re: Power Plan??

....I usually use "Power Saver"... I adjusted the plan a little bit but I
think I should see the screen dimming when I unplug my power cord (at least
that's what I defined)... But that's not happening... On the other hand the
screen is switched off after 3 minutes when I'm on battery... So it seams to
switch but perhaps it's an issue with the video driver... (NVIDIA GeForce Go
6200 TE 64M/6600 TE 128M) version 7.15.10.9719

Re: Power Plan??

Hello,

I'm having the same problem as Thomas. If I set the power plan to power
saver while I'm on battery power and then plug in AC, the power plan stays on
power saver instead of automatically changing to high performance, which I'd
like it to do. In the same way, if i set the power plan to high performance
while I'm on AC and then unplug the AC, the power plan stays on high
performance instead of changing to power saver which is what I would prefer.
Is there any way around this? Thanks.

Andrew
