I was under the impression to use the Vista Compatable Logo on a software
site that the software has to be Vista compatable. I just purchased some
software from Iolo and the Vista Compatable Logos are there but the software
is not Vista compatable and will not install. If you comb their site you
will find mention that it will be Vista Compatable but not until 01/30/2007.
I feel by using the Vista Compatable Logo now, that they are misleading the
consumer and Microsoft should not allow them to do this until their software
is compatable. What does everyone else think?

Always read the small print!!

Microsoft released Windows Vista RTM (Release to Manufacture) with business
availability this past November to corporate customers who hold an
enterprise license or software assurance deal with Microsoft. The consumer
launch of Vista (with which iolo's products are synchronized) is expected to
take place on January 30, 2007. On or shortly before this date iolo will
make available updated versions of its Vista-compatible products that will
allow installation to take place on this operating system.

If you currently own an iolo product that is marked as Vista compatible,
simply installing the product on the Vista operating system (once Vista has
been released to the public) will trigger any required updating mechanisms
and allow for successful use and operation on Vista.

I find it disgusting and upsetting that there are companies who have versions
of their software, Vista ready, but they refuse to make them available till
the 30th when Vista goes public.

Omnipass and Cyberlink (Power2go and Power DVD), and Bluesoleil (who claim
to have a vista version since November of last year) are the same. They all
have Vista versions of their software, but they refuse to make them
available. Why?? Why make everyone crash their site on the 30th? What are
they trying to do, con-users into buying the old version so they will have to
turn around and buy the update?

I don't get it. There are all kinds of people using Vista, why not make it
available? If I could find companies that had similar software I would switch
just because I feel stiffed after having used their software for years.

They don't even have the courtesy of being clear and upfront about things.
You can't find answers on their FAQ sections. You have to do web searches or
send emails and wait days only to get vague and unfriendly replies. I don't
like the way most software companies are handeling this release of Windows.
They're obviously not interested in building customer loyalty.

Instead of giving one the chance of recommending their software to friends
and family on the 30th of this month I'll just be fighting to make the
downloads with thousands of others, adding to the congestion. In any case I'm
so disgusted by the attitude of some that I don't know if I'll ever by the
new version and I certainly will not be recommending it to anyone.

That's what I mean about NOT being upfront and clear about things. "Read the
small print," well put it in BIG PRINT, be honest and clear about things so
there can be no misunderstandings!

Thanks to all that have responded. I should have read closer. I still feel
that Microsoft should not let software vendors use the logo until they have
compatable software for Vista that is available immediately. This would
force software vendors to release their latest versions or lose out to
companies that are truly compatable. I am a consumer and I will remember
companies like Iolo when I do business next time. Purhaps a post would be
positive to list companies that are deceptive about being Vista Compatable.
Purhaps by listing the details in fine print they feel it is acceptable
advertising. I feel it is misleading and it should not be posted until it is
available. Again , Microsoft could stop this process in the future, by not
releasing the logo until software is compatable.

The "Average Consumer" cannot even purchase Windows Vista
until January 30, 2007. Even large PC manufacturers are not
going to offer Windows Vista installed on their systems until that date.

What you shared regarding Microsoft should “not� allow third party vendors
use the Microsoft Logo, including the Vista Logo, is the result of Microsoft
trusting others to perform as legally and mutually agreed; well as you are
aware some folks do, and others do not.

The above is just one reason that Microsoft refuses allowing third party
vendors modify Vista’s Kernel Patch Protection. The end result, OEMs rightly
receive blame for their OS conflicts, not Microsoft; OEMs, and hackers and
whackers do not have access to Vista’s Kernel Patch Protection. So,
obviously, Vista, specifically Genuine Microsoft Vista provides the most
incredible inherent Security our World has ever known and experienced.

The Vista version that is provided by Licensed Builders and OEMs is gently
different (regarding Security) compared to Genuine Microsoft Vista, because
the Builders and OEMs have controlled access, (authorized by Microsoft) for
gently modifying Vista’s OS for including the OEMs desired third party
applications.

For too many years, third party vendors were allowed to much access for
modifying all previous Versions of Windows OS, the secondary results;
whackers and hackers maliciously attacking Microsoft’s OS, today, Vista has
resolved that serious threat.
Logic dictates, (could be wrong) if companies as Iolo and others truly had
Vista ready products, they would be retailing such products even if Vista’s
release date was 2008.

Suppose, I’m somewhat as you, simply dislike people that I trust deceiving
me. The sad part, that situation occurs each and every day simply because we
did *not* read the legalese.
