| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: Windows Explorer hangs when deleting or renaming files Just as another piece of info, I installed Firefox and have Safari (sorry I like it) as default But the problem appeared after installing the March updates and patches from Microsoft, had to roll back a couple of times in order to take off both the SO and the Office updates And then, after the second rollback it happened... |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: Windows Explorer hangs when deleting or renaming files I used what is being suggested in the thread Deleting problems with Vista And found a problem with a file named "imageres.dll" in the System32 folder Does anyone knows what this file does/is? The log created with sfc /scannow shows the repair message "CSI 00000174 Hashes for file member \??\C:\Windows\System32\imageres.dll do not match actual file [l:24{12}]"imageres.dll" and "Repairing corrupted file [ml:520{260},l:46{23}]"\??\C:\Windows\System32"\[l:24{12}]"imageres.dll" Thank you |

| Vista Home Premium 64bit | Re: Windows Explorer hangs when deleting or renaming files Stopping the Indexing service also worked for me. After rebooting I also had tell Vista to re-index my hardrive(s) and reboot a seconds time so vista could do the re-index. To do this I click on the program menu and searched for 'indexing'. I clicked on 'advance' which hung indexing so I stopped the SearchIndexer.exe process in taskmanager. After doing this the advance window showed up and I clicked on 'restore defaults'. I recieved a message to that I would need to reboot to restore the default and rebuild the indexing. After rebooting everything appears to be back to normal. |
