Vista - Windows Vista Search Service has failed to created new system cata

Windows Vista Search Service has failed to created new system cata

when I try to start the windows seach service it fails to start. I get an
error

Windows Search Service has failed to created the new system catalog.
Internal error <1,0x80070002>.

cannot find any reference to this error.

can anyone enlighten me

I think you are running RC1. In any event, that bug was fixed in later
betas and is fixed in the RTM.

Unfortunatly I only have rc1. when I realized there was rc2 avalable, I
missed out downloading.

do you know a specific patch to fix this other than rc2, or do you have a
link for rc2?

I'm sorry. None of the Vista betas are available from Microsoft anymore.
They are floating around on the P2P networks but you download there at your
own risk.

The only fix I ever found for the RC1 index death problem was to reinstall
RC1. You can do an in-place upgrade of the same version and hopefully not
lose any of your settings.

probably have to wait til I get home to do a good backup.
