Media Player on Vista

I am running Enterprise version of Vista RTM and no multimedia formats are
working in media player. I downloaded the latest version (xp cause a
version for vista appears you can't download), but I can install because it
states a newer version is loaded. I tried to find a way to deinstall
(looked in the add and remove programs including windows components), but no
signs of it being installed, but the mediaplayer folder is in the program
files, and registry keys exist. How can I go about reinstalling media
player, and/or downloading the latest vista version of media player.

Thanks - Mike

Re: Media Player on Vista

Mike:
You need to download the codec packages for Vista. Nvidia Pure Video
Decoder works for standard DVD movies and Ffdshow works for AVI files. Have
a great day.

Re: Media Player on Vista

Let me rephrase it. It appears Media Player itself cannot be found. When I
look at the Program File folder no media player is listed, and when I try to
install media player 11 download it states a newer version is install and I
can't repair it or replace it.

Re: Media Player on Vista

Mike:
In the left column under programs Windows Media Player is listed,
Windows Media Center isn't available on Enterprise. Another way to find it
is click start, type media, Media player will be the first on the list. All
I had to do is add the codec packages for Media Player to work on 3
installations of Vista Enterprise x64 and 1 installation of Vista Enterprise
x86. Have a great day.

Re: Media Player on Vista

Is this true for Vista Home Premium also. I am having the same problem with
media formats not working. I am getting "...might not support the CODEC that
was used to compress the file" error message.
Thanks,
Ray

Re: Media Player on Vista

When you click Web Help, what further information did it give you? If it's
a missing codec, the web page Web Help takes you to should identify any of
the 800+ codecs it knows about...
