1. Can you try direct connect and bypass the router to see what happens
then?
2. Others have reported some problems and a router firmware update seems to
have fixed that.
3. Which model router?

with a mates if he will let me

HOWEVER - I use checkpoint secureremote - and I have a feeling this all
started when I installed secure remote....so I am going to speak to
checkpoint and see if it is something they have had replies about before.....

I'd make sure the duplex settings on this router match those on the network
card... Obvious point you've probably looked at already but deserves to be
checked. I'd also see if your network card has driver updates available
(sorry can't remember if you said you already checked this).

Vista has had a lot of issues with VPN clients that are not designed for
Vista because the network stack has had a major re-write and that, of course
is what VPN clients need to dig into. Does the checkpoint product claim
Vista compatability?

Don't want to keep on about this bit, but the question wasn't whether _we_
understood what you were writing or not, but whether or not _you_ understood
what you were writing and were therefore writing something accurate rather
than just repeating what "someone told you once", which we get here a lot.

If you went to a mechanic for a problem with your car and described the
noise it was making, would you expect them to clarify exactly what was
happening before or after your engine was in pieces all over the floor?

the checkpoint VPN claims vista ok - there eval kits so there not final..
its possible that its destroyed my networking - I tried to uninstall it and
it was still slow after the uninstall..

so it looks like I have a dead copy of vista that will require a clean
install... never mind... Like the grolsh - its not ready

This is not rocket science, his internet speed is much slower under
Vista as opposed to XP. I too have experienced the same problem,
though not nearly to the same degree. I was hoping to find some
valuable info in this thread, as opposed to a bunch a nerds pining and
splitting hairs.

won't start--peoiple who think just uncking for many are naive because there
are 12 places things can be started including several reg keys like Run Once
keys and there are serveral.

7) Turn off Messaging service--it's a security vulnerability and it slows

9) Turn off indexing.

10) Clear TIF and %temp% files (delete) and go to safe mode to get as many
