Vista x64 Soundcard

I normally use an M-Audio AP 192 soundcard but no drivers are available for
it. So I have been using a RealTec soundcard with Vista Ultimate x64. It has
been working fine. Until I reformatted and reinstalled. Now when I try to
install the same drivers as before I get the BSOD. I've installed these same
drivers numerous times with the same results. And as I said, they worked
fine on a previous install. I don't really care about this card but would
like a little sound until the M-Audio drivers become available (if they do).

In the meantime, does anyone know of a great soundcard that will work with
Vista Ultimate x64? A card that has drivers for it right now. Today. At this
present moment. Immediately. Right away. At once. Thanks.

Heh. And I'd be interested in recommendations for an inexpensive, but
good, sound card that already has drivers fully ready for Vista Ultimate
x86.

Both your computers must be knocking on a bit if they don't have onboard
sound.

Brand-new system with brand-new Intel mobo with onboard sound. I am
having problems with my microphone sound cutting out that I've been
trying to resolve through Intel support. I think it may have to do with
their audio drivers not really being ready yet for Vista (though I may
well be wrong). Their latest troubleshooting suggestion reads as follows:

"Basically, the troubleshooting provided before for the audio will also
help for the microphone issue you are describing.

Now, please place the board over a non-conducting surface. Just plug in
the power supply, the video card, minimum amount of memory, and the
processor, and try to boot up. In some cases a metal piece coming from
the chassis could cause grounding to the board and would not operate
properly."

Being uninterested in tearing apart my whole system to attempt (probably
unsuccessfully) to resolve a microphone sound problem, I'm considering
trying a basic, but decent, sound card, instead.

OMG...I'm stunned that they would even suggest that!

Creative X-Fi series is a great sound card, with good x86 and x64 drivers.
Running them great here. No problems at all.

Re: Vista x64 Soundcard

Thanks to all that replied.

Synapse, thanks for the links.

Dustin, I do some music recording and wonder if the card you're recommending
would handle that well? I have an Audigy card that I don't use because you
can't plug 1/4" jacks into it (such as guitar and mixer jacks). It seems
flimsy in those respects. I will go to the Creative site and check it out.
Thanks again.

You're welcome.

The X-Fi Elite Pro version is catered for musicians, but its pretty
expensive.

Re: Vista x64 Soundcard

Thumbs up for X-Fi here too.
Although, I do wish that it had a dedicated digital out and a separate line in.
