Sun Microsystems Inc. (SUNW) is known for raising eyebrows, but the company's announcement last
week that KKR Private Equity Investors would invest $700 million has left some on Wall Street
dumbfounded.
After all, Sun Microsystems isn't exactly poor - it ended the fourth quarter with $4.8 billion
in its coffers - and doesn't appear to have many obvious takeover targets on its radar screen.
That, industry watchers said, has led to speculation that Sun could use its newfound cash for
everything from buybacks to fending off would-be suitors.

"They don't need the cash," said Josh Farina, an analyst at Hampton, N.H., market research firm
Technology Business Research. "One possibly is its a hedge to keep other buyout firms from
coming in."

In conjunction with its fiscal second-quarter earnings report last week, Santa Clara,
Calif.-based Sun Microsystems announced KKR Private Equity Investors would invest $700 million
and get a seat on Sun's board. Sun said last week that the investment wasn't a precursor to the
company going private, but that it would consider additional investments similar to KKR.

The investment from KKR is comprised of $350 million of convertible senior notes due 2012 and
$350 million of convertible senior notes due in 2014.

Sun Chief Executive Jonathan Schwartz said last week that the deal would give Sun a business
partner to open doors and consult with on strategy and that the cash will be used for growth
initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions.

While Sun could use the cash for acquisitions, the idea of the company trying to prevent a
buyout isn't that much of a stretch. Back in April 2005, Sun's stock got a lift after
BusinessWeek reported that Chief Executive Scott McNealy was considering taking the company
private with the help of Silver Lake Partners. That never came to be, and CEO McNealy
eventually stepped down in April.

The SUNW Stock indeed experienced a short lived run-up, while the SUNW price

1 penny. Friday, January 26, 2007 the price for SUNW Closed at $6.33. This
day, Monday, January 29, 2007 the price for SUNW closed at $6.34.

Appears the intentional Pumping has near concluded, next comes the Dumping…
Have monitored SUNW for too long, the above will be first addressed by a
federal agency before slowly entering federal court. By the way, the above
was taken from NASDAQ Real Time Level II Quotes, monitored on a daily basis
throughout the entire Market Hours.

Well, just as anticipated, suddenly someone just paid $6.35 for a few shares
of SUNW, intentionally Pumping the price for SUNW, commonly during the last
few seconds before After Market Close, someone buys a few Shares of SUNW at a
much higher price, compared to regular Market Close, legally known as price
Pumping as legally defined by the SEC. Today, likely Sun’s comrades were too
preoccupied from fears of Vista’s Release and to bust Short Selling MSFT, and
forgot to Pump SUNW. And then, likely the conclusion is rapidly approaching
for SUNW.

Additionally, if history repeats, during After Market Hours, Sun’s comrades
will attempt Pumping the price of SUNW, historically the last Pump will occur
just moments before the After Hours Market Close. At this writing, SUNW is
now up a total of 2 cents, instead of 1 cent, although, during the next few
minutes historically might be some additional price Pumping; next, the price
Dumping will soon follow. (now, the last and final Price for SUNW was $6.35
